Biology Exam Revision Cells Cell Membrane The cell membrane surrounds the cytoplasm of a cell, separating its contents from the environment around it. The cell surface membrane consists of two layers of phospholipids and regulates what can enter and leave the cell. It is a semi-permeable membrane embedded with proteins, including receptors on the outer surface. Nucleus The nucleus is the ‘brain’ of the cell. It is a large, round organelle and is surrounded by the nuclear envelope (a double membrane). The nuclear envelope allows the exchange of materials between the nucleus and cytoplasm through its large, nuclear pores. The nucleus contains DNA therefore the information to regulate the metabolism and reproduction for the cell. It also contains a dark staining area called the nucleolus. A Main Contributing Factor to Limits on Colonial Unity

Wealth: A Main Contributing Factor to Limits on Colonial Unity Colonial America was a veritable melting pot of individuals of all nations fused into a new race of men whose labors and posterity would shape the future. Legends about America painted the picture of a land unsoiled and pure, an asylum, and a venture at a new beginning for all who desired it. But those who fled from their home countries were met with a more realistic landscape, and were unprepared for the bleak ruggedness of unexplored territories. Soon colonies formed on rocky foundations and prospered into stable communities. Nevertheless, the metamorphosis from a group of colonies to an independent country was not an easy one. Before the thirteen colonies could merge, forming the United States, they experienced hardships and barriers to forming a cohesive union. The distribution of wealth within the colonies, competition for money and differences in assets between the colonies, and failed attempts at unification were all limiting factors of colonial convergence. It seems quite clear that class lines hardened throughout the colonial period. The distinction between rich and poor became sharper. A study of colonial New England showed that the poor numbers continuously rose, and the wandering poor were an inevitable fact of life in the mid-1700s (Zinn 50). In this lopsided concentration of wealth, the rich were high and eminent in power and dignity. They imitated the upper class of England in their mansions, horse-drawn sedans, magnificent portraits, periwigs and rich food (Zinn 36). In 1678 a petition from Deerfield Massachusetts to the Massachusetts General Court proudly illuminated the way the upper class dominated society. You may be pleased to know that the very principle and the best of the land; the best for the soile; the best for situation; as laying in yer center and middle of the town; and as to quantity, near half belongs u...

Women in the family in Saudi Arabia Research Paper

Women in the family in Saudi Arabia - Research Paper Example To determine the situation of women in Saudi Arabia one has to analyze these factors first. This paper aims at understanding the role and position women are given in the Saudi society. It will examine the culturally defined position of women in the family, marriage, health, education, religion, politics and the economy. Saudi Arabia is a big nation covering almost the entire Arabian Peninsula. The kingdom dwarfs neighboring countries like Kuwait, Iraq, Yemen, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Oman, and Jordan. Thanks to its vast oil deposits, the country is cash rich with modern cities, advanced technologies, and sleek homes. However, the Saudi Arabia’s culture and beliefs are strongly influenced by the Islamic religion. Members of its society learn the various traditional and cultural values from their families and schools at a young age. The kingdom takes religious functions and calendar very seriously. The highlights of the nation’s calendar are the Ramadan and the national holidays that come after it (Zuhur 345). The Saudi Arabian way of life is also hugely influenced by the old age Arabic traditions. They include the values of hospitality and generosity that every family offers to friends, strangers, and family. Religion and the tradition Arabic culture determine the position of women in the Saudi Arabian society. Women in the Saudi are viewed as inferior to men. The rules that govern their general behavior show their inferiority. For example, women in the nation regardless of marital status or age are required to be in the company of a male guardian when they leave their home and they are not permitted to drive. It is evident that the culture and the Islamic religion of the Saudi Arabian people determine how various institutions of the society are structured and the role women paly in those institutions. The Saudi family and marriage system is also significantly influenced by the country’s culture and traditions. Traditionally, marriage

Googles Organizational Culture Research Paper Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words

Googles Organizational Culture - Research Paper Example Google has always stood up for its role while bringing about a difference on how people are able to access information with ease. Before its entrance into the market, a variety of search engines existed such as Yahoo but has for one reason prevailed above them as most people seek its services in preference to others. This is due to its efficiency as well as relevance in the market now that it has tried to adopt a model keen on capitalizing on all the present opportunities in the market. One of the greatest advantages derived from it is due to its speed and reliability. While trying to keep abreast with technology a move to hire the best skill was welcomed. So as to maintain their motivation a step to reward staff has helped to a great deal now that all are trying their best while enhancing the overall outcome. The management thus no longer needs to struggle more as is the norm in most organizations leading to a relaxed workplace sparing creativity as all pursue what they love. In mos t formal organization one is expected to put on an official dress; casuals dress is sometimes worn only on festive seasons but isn’t the case in Google owing to staffs putting on casuals at any one point. Some are likely to be seen with skating boards as well as other gaming types of equipment and tools and has to a great extent helped while creating a relaxed mood (Wakefield, Blegen, Uden-Holman, Vaughn, Chrischilles & Wakefield). It thus emerges that perhaps the best way to encourage productivity is by availing such an environment.
